The Government Museum of Bali is located at Mayor Wisnu street. In central Denpasar. This museum was formally opened on December 8th 1932 . The Museum has 13026 objects which are exhibited in four buildings consisting of five rooms namely, Gedung Timur, Gedung Tabanan, Gedung Karangasem and Gedung Buleleng.On the first floor of Gedung Timur is exihibited Balinese pre history and historical objects consisting of period hunting and food gathering utensils used for farming and carpentering. On the second floor is exihibited Balinese Traditional technology like building instruments, kitchen utensils, gambling mediums and Balinese agricultural implements. Gedung Tabanan was a donation from the king of Tabanan regency which reflects the sourthern part of the Balinese building style. In this building we have exhibited Balinese Traditional art tools especially used in dancing consisting of barong, masks, keris, shadow puppets and many others. Gedung karangasem reflects the eastern part of Balinese building types.. This building implements the tools used in five types of ceremonies (Panca Yadnya) to the god (Dewa Yadnya), to the dead people (Pitra Yadnya), to the priest (Rsi Yadnya), The life circle (Manusa Yadnya) and to the black magic spirit (Bhuta Yadnya) ceremonies. The collection exhibites the pratima, jempana, the silver water pitcher, pralingga, the cradle and so on. Gedung Buleleng reflects the northern part building style with it’s lion statue’s. Balinese Traditional cloths are exhibited in this building such as cokordi, songket, gringsing,and endek dan prada cloths. In general these cloths are used in custom, or relegious ceremonies such as after puberty, tooth filing and wedding ceremonies. Included in the gallery are paintings collected from the greatest painters of Bali. |
